The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) today signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Naitasiri Provincial Council during the Bose Ni Yasana meeting at Nasoqo Village in the Naitasiri Highlands.
The MOU was signed by FCS Acting Commissioner, Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi, and Chairman of the Naitasiri Provincial Council, Dr. Jone Baledrokadroka. This partnership marks a significant step in strengthening community-based rehabilitation support for ex-offenders originating from the province.
Accompanying the Acting Commissioner were FCS Director Training & Rehabilitation, Superintendent Isireli Dausiga, Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Operations, Mr. Alevio Turaga and Staff Officer Yellow Ribbon Program, Assistant Superintendent, Waisale Soqonakalou.
During the presentation to the Council, FCS shared data and statistics highlighting the number of inmates from Naitasiri currently incarcerated.
The Acting Commissioner emphasized that these men and women will greatly need the support of their communities upon release, especially through the Naitasiri Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex-Offenders (CARE) Network Committee.
He appealed to the village elders and the Provincial Council to work closely with FCS in creating a supportive environment for ex-offenders to reintegrate successfully into society.
β€œWhen we do not reintegrate these men and women successfully back into society, they will return back to the criminal cycle and in turn impact the security in the community and the nation as a whole.”
β€œIt is important that we give them a fair go at life, to re-establish so they can become law abiding citizens and good members of the community.”
The MOU now paves the way for stronger collaboration between FCS and the Naitasiri Provincial Council in ensuring rehabilitation efforts are not only institution-based but also rooted within the community.
