𝐅𝐢𝐣𝐢 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) and the Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding (PCP) today officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Corrections National Headquarters in Suva, marking a significant step forward in their continued collaboration to promote restorative justice and rehabilitation within Fiji’s correctional system.

Speaking at the signing, the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi, acknowledged PCP for being a loyal and long-standing partner since 2009. He commended the organization for its consistent support in facilitating programs that have contributed to the positive transformation of inmates, helping them reintegrate into society as responsible citizens.

Mr. Naucukidi highlighted that the partnership has played a crucial role in aligning the Fiji Corrections Service’s rehabilitation framework with a restorative justice approach, which focuses not only on reforming offenders but also on rebuilding relationships with victims and communities. He said the MOU reinforces FCS’s commitment to building safer and more peaceful communities through collaboration with key stakeholders.

Executive Director of PCP, Mrs. Florence Swami, expressed her gratitude for the partnership and emphasized that the signing of the MOU provides a strong foundation to advance peacebuilding efforts within the corrections system. She stated that the collaboration will enhance reconciliation, healing, and restorative programs designed to prepare both inmates and victims before reintegration, fostering mutual understanding and long-term peace.

The event marks a renewed chapter in the partnership between FCS and PCP, underscoring their shared vision of creating a justice system centered on healing, restoration, and community resilience. Through this MOU, both organizations reaffirm their dedication to supporting the rehabilitation and successful reintegration of offenders across Fiji.

The MOU will also allow the PCP to conduct training for FCS personnel in the areas of restorative justice and its various stages until an inmates is due for release back to society
