The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) held its Commissioner’s Church Parade at the Suva Corrections Centre Chapel yesterday.
This event, which focused on spiritual guidance and family values within the organization, included officers and staff from all Divisions.
A powerful sermon delivered by the Reverend Ananaiasa Sorovakaca focused on the theme of leadership, drawing parallels between the biblical prophet Elijah and the responsibilities of corrections officers.
He emphasized the need for officers to embody leadership qual
ities, demonstrating integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment to their duties.
He also stressed the importance of using the Word of God as their main guiding principle and a source of strength when dealing with the complex challenges encountered both within and outside the corrections environment.
Following Reverend Ananaiasa’s sermon, the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Sevuloni Naucikidi took center stage to launch Family Week. This initiative emphasizes the role of family in the lives of corrections officers and the individuals under their care.
The Acting Commissioner highlighted the significance of family in fostering positive societal outcomes. He highlighted that โ€œmany individuals entering the correctional system have undergone family breakdowns, emphasizing the crucial importance of a stable family unit in a child’s development.โ€

The further urged officers to dedicate more time to their families during the coming week, recognizing that family is the cornerstone of a childโ€™s growth, shaping their values, behavior, and emotional well-being.
“When you invest time and attention for your families, you encoursge an environment or nurturing responsible, resilient individuals who contribute positively to our communities.”
