An Important Milestone Toward National and Regional Recognition of Rehabilitation for Inmates and Training courses for Officers
Tuesday, 24 June 2025 โ The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) today reached another milestone in its commitment to rehabilitative excellence with the renewal of its Certificate of Registration from the Higher Education Commission of Fiji (HECF).
This official recognition allows the FCS to continue as a registered education provider in Fiji.
The certificate was formally presented during a meeting held between the HECF team, led by the Director of Higher Education, Dr. Eci Naisele, and senior representatives of the Fiji Corrections Service at the HECF Office this afternoon.
Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the HECF for the continued recognition, stating that this development reflects a long-term vision of professionalising corrections-based rehabilitation and training.
โThis certificate is not just a formality โ it is a gateway. It allows us to deliver nationally recognised qualifications that benefit not only our officers but also the men and women under our care. We are grateful for the collaboration and commitment shown by the Higher Education Commission,โ said Mr. Naucukidi.
The Director of Education Training and Rehabilitation, Senior Superintendent Aisea Rainima from the Fiji Corrections was a key figure in the collaborative efforts with the HECF team over the past year to meet all registration standards.
This achievement is the result of extensive consultations, curriculum reviews, and policy alignment to ensure that FCS programs meet the national education quality benchmarks.
The recognition will enable the Fiji Corrections Service to:
ยท Award accredited certificates to both officers and inmates for vocational and technical training.
ยท Strengthen partnerships with tertiary and regional education providers for cross-certification and advancement opportunities.
ยท Improve post-release employment outcomes for inmates through nationally recognised qualifications.
ยท Promote a culture of lifelong learning and professional development within the Service.

The Director of HECF acknowledged the transformative role that education plays in rehabilitation and commended FCS for its proactive steps toward uplifting the standards of correctional education in Fiji.
As FCS continues to advance its Yellow Ribbon Rehabilitation Framework, this registration affirms its mission to not just secure inmates โ but to empower them through structured, credible, and meaningful education.
