Thirty Non-Commissioned Officers from the 15 Corrections Centers gathered on Tuesday 13/5/25 at the Corrections Training Academy to attend the COB to COA Promotional Course and were challenged this morning by the Deputy Commissioner of Corrections Auta Moceisuva in his opening address.
The Course, is designed to be intensive and challenging for personnel holding the ranks of COB (Corrections Officer Class B) and would cover a period of four weeks.
โ€œNow when we say promotional it means in this context that the organization is preparing you to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to perform at a higher level,โ€™โ€™ Deputy Commissioner Moceisuva said. โ€œYour chances of promotion also increases when you complete this course”. he adds.
DCC Moceisuva highlighted that some of the skills that they will learn from the courses is the ability to think strategically, planning, communication, resource and time management, decision making and emotional intelligence. โ€œYou would have heard at some point in your career โ€“ the word planning. โ€œAt this level, as COBs you need to have a level of understanding about organisational planning, implementation and monitoring. “For FCS, the process of planning is important given that its strategies must be aligned to the National Development Plan of the government of the day,โ€™โ€™ he added. โ€œMoreover, many times we tend to focus on our internal operations and we seem to forget that we are surrounded by other factors that could help us to execute our roles effectively and strategically”. DCC Moceisuva added. Further, โ€œA work culture is a set of standard practices determined to guide how an organization operates, the systems and protocols which allows them to operate in a certain manner”. โ€œEssentially every organisations are governed by policies which are developed to guide how they operate unscored by written as well as unwritten rules pertaining to the prison system which are influenced by the working environment, socio-economic conditions and and technology that must be understood at this level.โ€ said DCC Moceisuva.
The FCS is committed to upskilling its staff members to increase their skills and knowledge to better perform in their various roles.
