Twenty eight FCS personel and 10 ex-servicemen were honored with medals as the 150 years celebrations continued at Naboro this

afternoon.

The special medal ceremony was held as part of the Commissioners Parade to commemorate the anniversary celebrations.
“This week’s Corrections Day celebrations provides the perfect backdrop of today’s Medal Ceremonies,” said Acting Commissioner, Mr Sevuloni Naucukidi.
“In celebrating this 150 years, we are celebrating history, we are celebrating achievements, we remember those who passed on, we acknowledge the sacrifices made by many for this organization and we reward those whose achievements exemplifies the virtues of being a Corrections Officer.

“The work of corrections over many years has its own challenges, particularly when we are often confronted by the lack of resources, funding and the challenge of infrastructure that is often non-conducive to rehabilitation.
“But yet with these many challenges, we have continued to overcome. The human elements of leadership, character, resilience, innovation and adhering to Command with unwavering support has time and again paved the way in the work that we do.
“The standards and the fruits of our labours enjoyed today is because of the sacrifices of many who have gone before us.
“Today we stand on the shoulders of great men and women who have served long before us, when the infrastructure was not so good, working conditions very tough, the ratio between inmates to personnel was quite disheartening, and the priority the nation then placed on Corrections was not so high, and yet they persevered.”
Mr Naucukidi said those received their medals have in one way or another greatly contributed to the growth of the organization for many years.

“Today we honour you. We also honour your families, your wives, your children for standing by you during the toughest days and celebrating with you during your triumphs,” he said.
“We dedicate this day also to your families, for you are nothing without them. They are the reason you work hard in life.
Today, all of you standing here, become a part of the history of FCS. This is our way of showing you that we have seen you, we have heard your voice, we are one with your struggles and we have witnessed the impact of your good work.”
