Nabouwalu, Vanua Levu – The Bua Yellow Ribbon Symposium officially commenced today with a traditional opening led by the Turaga na Tui Bua, Ra Makutu Nagagavoka, marking a significant step in strengthening community awareness on second chances and rehabilitation.

The Acting Commissioner of Corrections, accompanied by his command team, took part in a customary welcoming ceremony alongside village chiefs and district representatives of Bua. The ceremony reflected the strong partnership between the Fiji Corrections Service and traditional leadership in promoting reintegration and community support for offenders.
In his opening address, the Turaga na Tui Bua acknowledged the Acting Commissioner and his team for the positive initiative, emphasizing that the Yellow Ribbon Programme serves as a guiding platform for

families and community leaders to embrace the principle of second chances. He highlighted its importance in uplifting Fijians, particularly within the iTaukei community, to support and help one another.
The Fiji Corrections Service acknowledges the people of Bua for their warm hospitality and support, and looks forward to meaningful engagements throughout the symposium as efforts continue to build safer and more inclusive communities.
