FNU Nasinu Campus, Fiji – The Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Auta MoceisuvΠ°, was the Chief Guest at the Fiji National University’s (FNU) Fiji Day, World Teachers’ Day and Pinktober celebrations held at the Nasinu Campus in Valelevu today.
The event, held at the CBHTS Lecture Theatre, brought together members of the university community to celebrate national identity, recognise the contributions of educators, and raise awareness about cancer prevention and early detection.
Mr. MoceisuvΠ° was introduced by the Head of Campus, Ms. Katarina Tonga Ruru, before delivering the Chief Guest address.
In his address, Mr. MoceisuvΠ° highlighted the importance of education, health, compassion and national unity in building a stronger Fiji.
He acknowledged the dedication of teachers and academic staff, emphasising their role in shaping future leaders and equipping students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
Drawing from the Fiji Corrections Service’s rehabilitation work, he also highlighted the transformative power of education, skills development, counselling and mentorship in helping individuals make positive choices and prepare for successful reintegration into their communities.
The Acting Commissioner further encouraged the university community to support Pinktober by promoting cancer awareness, prioritising early detection and showing compassion towards those affected by cancer.
Reflecting on Fiji Day, he called on all Fijians to embrace the nation’s cultural diversity, respect one another and work collectively towards a united and inclusive society.
He reminded students that higher education extends beyond academic qualifications, encouraging them to develop strong character, discipline, integrity and a commitment to serving their families, communities and country.
The celebrations featured an opening prayer, the national anthem, a garlanding ceremony, choir performances, cake cutting and cultural presentations representing Fiji’s diverse communities, alongside activities recognising World Teachers’ Day and Pinktober.
The event reinforced the shared responsibility of individuals and institutions in promoting education, wellbeing, cultural appreciation and national unity.
