The Fiji Corrections Service congratulates the 12 personnel who graduated at the recent FNU Graduations held in Suva.
The graduates are the second cohort of personnel from the FCS to under-go this intensive 12-month course to attain their Advance Diploma in Leadership and Management, tailored to meet the demands for those working in and for those eyed for positions of leadership in their various institutions.
The course curriculum covered areas such as Critical Thinking, Solving Complex Problems, Managing Budgets and Financial Plans, Managing Organizational Change, Developing and Implementing Force, and Developing Organisational Strategies and implementing and sustaining a Work Health Safety System at work.
The graduates were engaged in a combination of classroom and online learning and juggling work and family commitments at the same time over the course of 12-months.
โ€œIt really put to the test our time management and also choosing between studies and other activities that we do outside of work, it was quite tough but with the support of our family and co-workers we all managed to complete the required work to graduate,โ€™โ€™ says Duty Officer Nasinu CC, PCO Ilisoni Narawa.
โ€œThis is not only an achievement for me but also for my family and I thank the Leadership of FCS for encouraging us to keep pursuing academic excellence, I also congratulate my Officer in Charge, ASC Waqabaca who also undertook this journey with me.
OC Pre-Release Center, CCO Atunaisa Maiono said to have attained his first ever formal tertiary qualification ever has changed his whole perspective towards self-improvement.
โ€œI worked my way up through the ranks with no formal qualification but just hard work, when I attended my brotherโ€™s graduation in New Zealand in 2024, it inspired and taught me that education has no age limit and so with the support from the FCS I enrolled in this course and soon realized I could do it.โ€
โ€œThis journey has shown me that dreams do not have an expiry date, and I thank my wonderful wife for the support every day, my work colleagues and the leadership at FCS for giving me this opportunity.โ€
For mother of four, COA Marryanne Delanaโ€™s, the achievement stood out as a reminder that success is often built on years of patience, sacrifice and determination especially when met with situations that would make many give up.
โ€œIn 2012 I lost my father then in 2016, we lost our home to Cyclone Winston and my dreams of doing my studies always took second place because we had to recover from our losses. I needed to focus on my duties with the Corrections Service and earn a living for my young family.
โ€œIn 2024 I again tried to continue and stopped again as I was raising a young family, and last year I just put my head down and tried to complete it with the support of my mum and my work colleagues. Today is also special because it is also my birthday,โ€™โ€™ she added.
COA Delana graduated with a Diploma in Quantity Surveying. She is based at the Projects Unit of the FCS, based at the National Headquarters.
The FCS continues to encourage and support the upgrading, upskilling of its personnel through the attainment of formal qualifications to add value to their work and help consolidate the professional standards required in the running of the organization.
