4th April, 2025

Naboro, Fiji – April 4, 2025 – Six days after the Acting Commissioner, Sevuloni Naucukidi took office, representives from all the divisions
paraded at Naboro this afternoon to mark the occasion of his ascendancy to the leadership position as the head of the FCS.
In his address, the Acting Commissioner, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the officers for their unwavering dedication and hard work in the past. The Acting Commissioner, particularly acknowledged the challenges faced by the FCS and emphasized that everyone’s contributions are vital in maintaining the safety and security of the inmates within the correctional facilities.
The Acting Commissioner, delivered a strong statement referencing the crucial directive given to him by the Hon Prime Minister who said, “Go and rebuild the image of the Fiji Corrections Service.” This statement underscored a renewed commitment to enhancing public perception and trust in the FCS towards rebuilding FCS and which requires cross sectoral collective efforts and commitment from all staff members.
Furthermore, the Acting Commissioner made references to two former Commissioners by drawing inspirational legacies to strengthen the organisational resolve moving forward. These inspirations were drawn from former Commissioners Mr. Iowane Naivalurua, and Mr. Francis Kean, two leaders who helped shaped the modern concept and significant infrastructure development agendas of the FCS. In referring to Mr Naivalurua, the Acting Commissioner, quoted, “You can only give what you have” ( Naivalurua, I, 2007). This sentiment echo the importance of understanding strategic directions for leaders to acquire and share the knowledge and skills to the men and women they command. Furthermore, Acting Commissioner alluded to the “private strategy concept” often associated with organisational behavior and which was attributed to Mr Francis Kean. These statements served as a stark reminder to all officers present that the actions of one officer could either positively or negatively affect the organisation’s performance depending on the choice of action. “I urge everyone to be mindful of their conduct both in private and as professionals of the FCS”, said Mr Naucukidi.
The parade was concluded by a traditional welcome ceremony witnessed by the senior, junior officers and other ranks as a symbolic event to mark the beginning of a new chapter and emphasizing a strong sense of unity, reinforcing their a commitment of shared responsibility in upholding the values and expected standards. Mr. Naucukidi’s message resonated deeply with those present, inspiring them to continue striving for excellence in their roles.
