The Fiji Corrections Service opened its doors today for six hours to allow family members to walk into prison and share a special meal with their loved ones who are currently under the care of the FCS.
It was a family day to remember, as sons and daughters shared tears with their mums and dads who were incarcerated, and ate and laughed to their hearts content.
The Family Day was observed in all of the FCS Facilities in all Divisions and only inmates who have served their sentences diligently throughout the year without any discipline issues are eligible for this program.
At the Suva Corrections Center, 67-year old Rambha Wati and family travelled from Korovuto in Nadi to visit her youngest son

Moneel Yogesh Narayan also bringing along his two daughters.
A tearful mother shared her joy in seeing her son again under more relaxed circumstances and being able to cook and bring his favorite meal with the family.
βThis is so important to all of us as a family, to share a meal before the year ends, we thank the Fiji Corrections for hosting the families today.β
Travelling from Dravuni in Tailevu also this morning was Losalini Tadu who came with her 7-year old daughter Kesaia and 7-month old baby Peni to visit her husband and the childrens father in what became a very emotional affair.
βWhen we came to visit before, I couldnβt bring our children, today we are all so happy and I got to bring his favourite meal stir fry chicken.β

Family visitations are an integral part in the rehabilitation of an inmate as it encourages them to change, promotes healing and helps maintain the bridge for their reintegration back into their community when released.
The Fiji Corrections Service takes this time to wish all family members of those under our care a Merry Christmas and best wishes to the festive season and the new year.
