Assistant Commissioner of Operations, Mr Alevio Turaga, and the Supervisor Western Division, Superintendent Trevor Raiwalui visited inmates cutting cane in the Tavua and Rakiraki area today.
Mr Turaga said the visit was to personally thank the inmates and all FCS personnel on the ground for the hard work put in for the past few months without any breach.
โCane cutting is very hard work, especially for our FCS personnel because they are deployed away from their families for months before being rotated.
โFor the inmates however, while it is tough, this program ensures they learn the values of hard work and also they get to earn good money.

โToday we came to personally thank them for all their hard work, and especially also because since June this year we have had no issues or breaches at all.โ
โSo today we also reminded them to keep focused on the job and enjoy being out in the field as the cane cutting season will round up in the next few weeks.
The involvement of the FCS in the Musu Dovu Operations began in 2013 to help alleviate the issue of finding labour during cane cutting season.
It also presented the opportunity for rehabilitation for inmates with the learnings of hard work, team work, discipline and also earning a substantial income from profits made.
