The Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Auta Moceisuva, together with his team comprising the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Apolosa Veve; Assistant Commissioner of Corrections (Administration), Mr. Rusiate Batiratu; and International Relations Officer, CCO James Koroitubuna, paid a courtesy visit earlier today to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Fijiβalso accredited to Kiribati, Nauru, and TuvaluβHis Excellency Dupito Simamora.
The meeting focused on progressing earlier discussions aimed at further expanding corrections infrastructure and enhancing the training of corrections personnel. In particular, discussions explored opportunities for the Fiji Corrections Service to benefit from training programmes in Indonesia.

Three key requests were reiterated during the meeting, which were initially raised during a previous visit to Indonesia by the suspended Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. These include the provision of training for mid-level and senior officers, improvements to database systems, and infrastructure developmentβspecifically the establishment of a new rehabilitation institution specified to drug cases and the provision of specialised security vehicles.
His Excellency Ambassador Simamora highlighted that these areas of cooperation are achievable with the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), noting that the necessary submissions have already been made.
The Acting Commissioner expressed his sincere appreciation to His Excellency for the constructive discussions and the continued support of the Government of Indonesia. He reaffirmed the Fiji Corrections Serviceβs commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and conveyed his anticipation towards the formalisation and signing of the MOU in the near future.
