The Fiji Corrections Service today held its Commissioners Church Parade at the Suva Methodist Chapel, coinciding with the Pentecostal Sunday and the conclusion of Family Week. The church parade was led by Reverend Ananaiasa Sorovakaca, Superintedant of the Suvavou Divisiion that brought together officers, and civilian staff to reflect on faith, family, and the importance of spiritual well-being.
The service opened with a moment of silence and a prayer for COB Naivalu’s family during this difficult time. Reverend Sorovakaca delivered a sermon emphasizing the significance of Pentecostal Sunday as a time of harvest, both spiritually and in terms of community growth. He highlighted the importance of nurturing one’s spiritual health, stating that โ€œcaring for the soul is fundamental to caring for the bodyโ€. He drew upon Old Testament examples to illustrate the power of prophecy, vision, and dreams, underscoring the need for a spiritually healthy persona to maintain physical well-being.
This event underscores the Fiji Corrections Service’s commitment to holistic rehabilitation, recognizing the crucial role of faith, family, and community support in the reintegration of offenders.
Following the church service, the Acting Commissioner of Corrections delivered a presentation on the causes of imprisonment in Fiji. The presentation focused on the need for effective interventions, particularly at the grassroots level, targeting the families of inmates. The Acting Commissioner stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to address the root causes of re-offending and promote rehabilitation.
