22nd November, 2025

The Fiji Corrections Service yesterday farewelled one of its long-serving and dedicated officers, Corrections Officer Class A (COA), Sergeant Major Jone Seru Vereivalu, in an emotional funeral service attended by family, colleagues, and members of the wider Corrections family.
Born into a proud legacy of service, COA Jone Seru followed in the footsteps of his late father, who also served as a Corrections Officer. He enlisted into the Fiji Corrections Service on 13 October 1996, beginning his career at just 20 years of age. From his earliest days in uniform, he was widely known for his discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty.

COA Jone Seru worked diligently across various institutions within the FCS, earning the respect and admiration of both officers and inmates alike. His professionalism and dedication saw him rise through the ranks to become the Medical Orderly at the Suva Corrections Centre, where he played a critical role in the care and wellbeing of inmates.
His passing on 14 November 2025 has left a profound void within the institution. As Senior Medical Orderly, he was not only a caregiver but also a mentor and steady presence for many officers who worked alongside him.

The Fiji Corrections Service extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the late COA Sergeant Major Jone Seru Vereivalu. His contributions to the institution and to the lives he touched will be long remembered.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
