Naboro Prison Complex, Fiji โ The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) proudly celebrated the Pass-out Parade for its Basic Recruitment Course (BRC) Training Batch 01/2024 today at the Naboro Complex. The momentous event marked the successful completion of a rigorous 14 week program for 64 dedicated recruits who have exemplified extraordinary commitment, resilience, and determination during their training.
The completion of the BRC training heralds a new dawn of regional collaboration within the corrections profession, particularly highlighted by the inclusion of four recruits from His Majestyโs Prisons of Tonga in the graduation parade. This milestone not only strengthens ties between Fiji and Tonga but also underscores the importance of joint efforts in training and capacity building across the region.
As Chief Guest, Commissioner of Corrections Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa inspired the graduates with a powerful address, stating, “Today marks a significant milestone in your journey. It is a moment of pride not just for you, but for your families, your communities, and the Fiji Corrections Service. You have faced rigorous challenges and are now equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as Corrections Officers.”
Dr. Nakarawa commended the four recruits from Tonga for their dedication and highlighted the crucial role of Commissioner Semisi Tapueluelu in enhancing this vital regional collaboration.
He further expressed gratitude for the partnership with Fiji National University (FNU), which enabled this program to be the first to receive a recognized Certificate Level 05 in Correctional Management. “This collaboration is a crucial step toward transforming the FCS Training Academy into a regional Corrections Training Facility, providing valuable training opportunities and fostering a spirit of partnership with our regional colleagues,” he noted.
The ceremony honored outstanding recruits for their hard work and exceptional performance, including:
1. Baton of Honor: COC Netava Vukivuki, awarded as the best all-round recruit.
2. Commissionerโs Book Prize: COC Netava Vukivuki.
3. Best in Drill: COC Ilaitia Vueti.
4. Best Recruit in Physical Training: Prison Officer Fakaofo Tonga of His Majestyโs Prison of Tonga.
5. Most Disciplined Recruit: COC Inia Yavala.
6. Most Progressive Recruit: COC Viliame Ciriyawa.
7. Best Platoon in Drill: Alpha Platoon.

In closing, Dr. Nakarawa urged graduates to uphold the values of Loyalty, Integrity, and Professionalism as they step into their new roles. “Your journey is not just about enforcing rules; it is about shaping lives and contributing to the rehabilitation and reintegration of those in our care.”
