Speech by the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr Sevuloni Naucukidi
Theme: Honouring the Past, Upholding the Legacy, Inspiring the Future
The Commissioner of the Fiji Police Force,
President of Ex-Servicemen,
Members of the Fiji Corrections Service,
Families of our fallen officers,
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen
Good morning and bula vinaka.
We gather here in the stillness of dawn, beneath the flag our heroes once saluted, to honour the men and women of the Fiji Corrections Service who have given their lives in service to our beloved nation.
Today, as the sun rises over Naboro, it casts its light on their memory a light that will never fade.
Thirty-nine of our own sons and daughters of Fiji answered the call of duty and paid the ultimate price.
Their courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and humanity remain etched in the very foundation of this institution.
They stood guard not only over the gates of our facilities, but also over the moral duty that binds us all: to protect, to reform, and to restore.
Let us remember their names, their stories, and the silent sacrifices of the families they left behind.
Before I continue, I wish to acknowledge the Fiji Police Force, who are here with us this morning. Your presence speaks volumes. By being here early and standing with us today, you have shown a true family gesture, a mark of deep respect for our fallen officers who, like your own, served this nation faithfully.
This unity between our services reminds us that while we wear different uniforms, we share one purpose and origin: to protect, to serve, and to uphold the peace and safety of our beloved Fiji. Vinaka Vakalevu for your solidarity and respect.
To those families present here today
we say, thank you.
Your loss is shared by every member of the Fiji Corrections family. Your loved ones did not die in vain; their service continues to inspire every uniform we wear.
This year, as we celebrate 150 years of the Fiji Corrections Service, we look back with pride and humility.
From our humble beginnings in 1874 and to today’s modern rehabilitation-focused institution, the FCS has evolved through the dedication, discipline, and sacrifice of its people.
The story of our organisation is written in their deeds, in every cell block built, every life reformed, and every community made safer.
To our officers, both past and present, your bravery, service, and sacrifice are what make us stronger. And to the families of those who have fallen, know that they will never be forgotten.
Your loved ones live on in the heart of the Fiji Corrections Service, and their memory will continue to guide us all.
May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may we, who continue in service, honour them by upholding the principles for which they lived and served.
Vinaka vakalevu. May God bless the Fiji Corrections Service , and may God bless our beloved Fiji.
