In a packed CMF Westfield Church in Lautoka the Honourable Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga, Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Sevuloni Naucukidi and staff of the FCS joined friends and families of the late Sgt Joseph Naivalu to attend the funeral church service.
The late Sergeant Joseph Naivalu joined the Fiji Corrections Service in 2017 and had served at the Taveuni Corrections Centre before he was redeployed to the Staff Training Academy in 2019 when he passed away. An ardent sports personality and qualified physical training instructor, Naivalu was well known amongst the staff at the Ministry of Justice and major local and international sports professionals.
The late Joseph Naivalu was single at the time of his tragic death but was planning to marry his fiancee later in November.
His body was uplifted from the CWM Hospital morgue this morning and along the way, the funeral procession made a solemn stop at the Fiji Corrections Academy in Naboroโa place where he spent most of his years shaping the next generation of corrections officers. There, officers stood on parade in full uniform, forming a guard of honour in a touching tribute to his unwavering dedication to the service


The Honourable Minister for Justice, Mr. Siromi Turaga, briefly stated that “as a legacy this man stood true to his duties”.
The late Joseph Naivalu will be remembered as a firm but compassionate leader, a mentor to many, and a true son of the Fiji Corrections Service. His absence will be deeply felt across the ranks.The Fiji Corrections Service extends its heartfelt condolences to the Naivalu family.
The last funeral rights was held at the Balawa Cemetery.
