Suva, Fiji โ The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) proudly hosted its inaugural International Womenโs Day (IWD) celebration today, bringing together female staff from all four divisions and 15 institutions across Fiji. The event commenced early this morning at 6am with a spirited walk from Albert Park to Veiuto Primary School Court, which was led by the Commissioner of the FCS, who was also the Chief Guest for the day.
During the opening ceremony, the Commissioner expressed heartfelt gratitude to all female staff, particularly acknowledging those who travelled from the Northern and Western divisions to participate in this significant event. He emphasized the vital role that women play within the FCS and commended their unwavering commitment to serving the community and upholding the values of the organization.
In his address, the Commissione
r highlighted an important aspect of this yearโs celebration: ” While International Womenโs Day is often associated with discussions around equality, it is equally crucial to focus on equity”. He encouraged attendees to reflect on how equity can lead to a more inclusive environment where every individual has access to opportunities tailored to their unique circumstances.
The celebrations will continue later this evening with a formal dinner, providing an opportunity for further recognition of the contributions made by female staff within the FCS. The event marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of appreciation and support for women in corrections.
