Tokyo, Japan | 6th August, 2025

The Honourable Siromi Turaga, Minister of Justice and Acting Attorney General of Fiji, led a high level Fiji delegation to Tokyo for a 3 day Conference, from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August, on Strategic Dialogue on Law & Justice.
The team included Permanent Secretary for Justice, Ms Selina Kuruleca, Acting Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Service Mr Sevuloni Naucukidi, Deputy Commissioner of Corrections Mr Auta Moceisuva, and Superintendent Apolosi Veve, Director of Planning, Policy and Development.
This Conference marks the latest milestone in the Fiji Japan Strategic Dialogue on Law & Justice, an initiative inaugurated during Japanโs January 2024 visit to Fiji at the invitation of Assistant Vice Minister of Justice, Ms Shibata Noriko.
That earlier visit formalised an agreement that both Japan and Fiji would host annual dialogues to share legal practice, policy approaches, and justice reformsโbuilding on cooperation across the Ministry of Justice, Attorney Generalโs Office, Fiji Corrections,

FICAC, Public Prosecution, and Legal Aid.
Honourable Minister Siromi Turaga, in remarks delivered at the closing session, emphasised Fijiโs commitment to leveraging international partnerships to strengthen rule of law, reduce recidivism, and enhance public trust in the justice system.
The Fiji Japan Strategic Dialogue on Law & Justice now stands on a firm footing, with plans for the next round to take place in Suva, where the Ministry of Justice of Fiji will host Japanese counterparts in early 2026.
