“Love of work, loyalty and compassion used to be the hall mark of Corrections and is something we must bring back to battle the challenges ahead.”
This was the main message shared this morning in Naboro by the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr Sevuloni Naucukidi during his monthly Parade.
“This is coming from a deep place, from someone who since his appointment in the last four months have been dragged through the mud and turned inside out in social media and in public, but have held on due to my loyalty to the organisation and the men and women under me,” he shared.
“The learnings from that for me is humility in all we do, especially in positions of leadership – it is not something to be proud of because it is a place to serve and to be humble.”
“I would like to impress on all of you that this was how we worked back in the days even though we lacked the resources, man power and also the salary.
“We supported each other, we loved our work and respected those in command. And did our work diligently.
“The slow disintegration of these values that held the FCS family together is leading us slowly into a time of darkness which we must get out of soon or we will find it hard to cope with the challenges of this changing criminal landscape.
Acting Commissioner Naucukidi, also spoke at length about taking ownership of one’s own role and doing what is expected in order to impact the lives of those under the care of the FCS.
This included bringing back best practices or basics that aligned to or assisted personnel to work according to procedures and protocols.
“This is not a new structure but merely putting back in place how things should be, we have also given back to supervisors and Officers in Charge and Heads of Departments their own powers to run their own units or institutions.
“But with this comes also accountability, not be just seen reporting to work daily, but to do what is required inline with procedures and policies and reporting and making decisions at your level.
“These things are held together by our love of work, loyalty and compassion- na loloma.”

“If you care about your family, if you care about your work, if you care about your superiors, then you will put in the required effort. These things are all connected.”
“Our work exists because of those under our care, but we can only give what we have in
“We are entering some very dark days in our society, and these elements will all end up on our door steps so we must be ready to deal with this new changes in our criminal landscape and be ready to do what the Government has mandated us to do.”
