“My father was not a man of many words, but more of action, humility and love of other people especially his family and his work.”
These were the words shared by Akanisi Matakiloto, as she made a moving eulogy for her late father PCO Sirilo Matakiloto, at the St Agnes Parish Church this morning.
“He never had any issues with anyone and was someone who made sure everything was good and we were happy, most of all he ensured that we his children always had what we needed.”
“He loved his work and his life was devoted to that, he loved being a Corrections Officer after our Grandfather.”
PCO Matakiloto, passed away on October 7, 2025 just a week short of celebrating his 29th year in the FCS (14 October 1996). He had been ill for well over a year and was a Duty Officer at the National Command Center when he passed.
His funeral was attended by 100s of from the St Agnes Catholic community, his family and members of the FCS led by Acting Commissioner Mr Sevuloni Naucukidi and his Command Group.
Supervisor National Headquarters Superintendent Lemeki Rokovesa, said PCO Matakiloto was a very experienced Corrections Officer whose capability saw him work various roles in his 29 years in the service.
He worked in Naboro in the Business Units, as dorm officer in Institutions in Suva and Lautoka and Nasinu, as a Duty Officer, as Personal Staff officer to the Commissioner and for the longest time over a decade as Staff Officer Cemetery Office before joining the National Command Center as Duty Officer.
“He was a devoted worker, even though he was not a man of many words but loved a good laugh and contributed a lot to improving standards in the Service. He will be missed greatly.
He is survived by his wife Savaira, and six children, Akanisi, Susana, Kustina, Dimanu, Vasiva and Sirilo Jnr.
