Naboro – The Fiji Corrections Service Southern Division today hosted a vibrant and uplifting inter-institutional competition at the Drill Square in Naboro, bringing together inmates from Minimum, Medium, and Pre-Release Corrections Centres.
The event featured two key competitions — the Inmates Choir Competition and the Inmates Volleyball Competition — both designed to promote rehabilitation, teamwork, and positive engagement among inmates.
Opening the occasion, the Director of Operations and Intelligence, Superintendent Lemeki Rokovesa, delivered a powerful and motivational message, encouraging inmates to view their time in custody as a stepping stone rather than a final destination. He emphasized that incarceration is only a chapter in life’s journey, reminding participants that they will one day return to their families and communities, and that the Fiji Corrections Service is committed to ensuring they return as better individuals.
While not formally stated in the program, the Supervisor for the Southern Division, Superintendent Alevio Turaga, highlighted that such initiatives align with the Fiji Corrections Service Annual Corporate Plan. These activities aim to ensure inmates are treated appropriately and are gradually prepared for reintegration into society upon their release.
The competitions were marked by strong participation, discipline, and a spirit of unity across all three participating institutions.
