Labasa, Fiji – The Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Auta Moceisuva, accompanied by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Operations Mr. Tuapati Kacivi and Chief Logistics Officer ASC Ilisoni Ratumaikoro, visited 52 inmates and their party engaged in sugarcane harvesting operations in Labasa.During the visit, Supervisor Northern Mr. Isireli Nataqa briefed the Acting Commissioner on the progress of the harvesting operation and highlighted the target of 11,000 tonnes of sugarcane for this year, compared to 4,000 tonnes harvested last year.
The Acting Commissioner later visited the inmates in the cane fields, where he challenged them to work towards achieving the target set, while commending their commitment, discipline and efforts throughout the harvesting season.
He acknowledged that the inmatesβ work contributes not only to their personal financial benefits, but also supports economic activity and contributes positively towards the growth and development of the Government through

productive rehabilitation initiatives.The Acting Commissioner also reminded the inmates to remain vigilant and avoid involvement in contraband activities, particularly when returning to their respective institutions, emphasizing that such actions could negatively affect their rehabilitation progress and overall incarceration experience.
He encouraged the inmates to use their time productively, maintain discipline and remain focused on the opportunities available through correctional rehabilitation programmes, stressing that their current efforts can contribute positively towards their future reintegration into society.
The Acting Commissioner also took the opportunity to engage directly with the inmates, responding to their questions and concerns. The interaction provided an opportunity for open dialogue and reinforced the Serviceβs commitment to supporting inmates throughout their rehabilitation journey.
