SUVA, FIJI — Senior leadership from the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) and the U.S. Army Oceania Engagement Team met at the FCS Headquarters this week to follow up on a major bilateral security and healthcare partnership. The specialized meetings and facility tours follow a productive preliminary session held on Thursday, 30 July 2026.The initial planning session was attended by Major Roberts and Staff Sergeant Le representing 
the U.S. Army Oceania Engagement Team.

The strategic partnership focuses heavily on expanding tactical training, improving correctional facilities, and addressing logistical challenges.
Key areas of cooperation explored between the two organizations include:
• Advanced Security & Surveillance: Technical assistance for drone operations, CCTV integration, and the acquisition of body scanners to prevent contraband smuggling.
• Healthcare Infrastructure Support: Supply of HIV/AIDS testing kits and developing ancillary healthcare services mirroring the Ministry of Health.
• Tactical & Capability Training: Specialized programs for correctional officers, medical personnel, and the expansion of the FCS K9 sniffer dog division.
• Logistical Mobility Solutions: Support to combat the ongoing impact of the fuel crisis through the provision of transportation assets like buses and ambulances.
The U.S. Army Oceania Engagement Team’s current tour of key Fijian correctional facilities marks a major step forward in formalizing these security and institutional upgrades.
