𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐘 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐖𝐎-𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄

The course was officially opened by Fiji Corrections Commandant, ASC Orisi Kuboutawa, and is attended by 26 officers comprising Non-Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks from across the country.

The participants already have experience carrying out Party Officer duties within their respective institutions. The refresher course is aimed at strengthening their knowledge, leadership and professional capabilities in carrying out these responsibilities.

In his opening address, ASC Kuboutawa highlighted the importance of the Party Officer’s role in maintaining security, supporting rehabilitation and ensuring meaningful production activities within correctional institutions.

He emphasised that security, rehabilitation and production are closely connected, with effective security creating an environment where rehabilitation and productive activities can take place. He also reminded officers that their daily interactions with inmates can influence positive behavioural change and successful reintegration.

He said the training should ultimately contribute to stronger leadership, improved security practices, better engagement with inmates and a greater understanding of the FCS mission of building safer institutions, rehabilitated individuals and safer communities.

The Commandant officially declared the Party Officers Refresher Course open and encouraged all participants to make full use of the two-week training opportunity to become more effective Party Officers.
