𝐅𝐂𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏, 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄

In his opening address, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Apolosa Veve, challenged leaders to take greater ownership of the Service’s plans and translate strategic commitments into meaningful action.

Mr. Veve reflected on lessons from the previous financial year, stressing the need for proper planning, implementation and monitoring. He emphasised that achieving the objectives of the Annual Corporate Plan is a shared responsibility, particularly for leaders who must demonstrate accountability and lead by example.

He further called on participants to critically review the previous financial year, identify areas where the Service fell short, address real challenges and realign their efforts with the Annual Corporate Plan, Strategic Development Plan and National Development Plan.

Communication and collective ownership were also highlighted as essential to successful implementation. Mr. Veve encouraged participants to speak openly, remain realistic in their discussions, work together and ultimately take ownership of the plans developed during the two-day workshop.

Emphasising personal accountability, he challenged leaders and officers to reflect on their own conduct and responsibilities, asking whether they are doing what is expected of them, whether they are honest in their work and whether they are leading by example. He also reminded participants of the Service’s core business of Security, Safety, Through and Thorough care, together with the values of humility and honesty.

In a strong call to service, Mr. Veve urged participants to shift their perspective from asking what the Fiji Corrections Service can do for them, to asking what they can do for the Fiji Corrections Service.

He concluded by calling for renewed commitment, dedication, perseverance, hard work and integrity as the Service enters the new financial year.

The two-day workshop provides an opportunity for an open minded discussion and for leadership to reflect, realign priorities and strengthen the foundations required to achieve greater operational excellence across the Fiji Corrections Service
