The United Nation Agencies is keen on supporting the Fiji Corrections Services (FCS) to improve in key areas of its operations and service delivery.
This was confirmed by the UN Resident Coordinator to Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu His Excellency Dirk Wagener, after the FCS Command team paid a courtesy visit to UN Headquarters in Suva yesterday.
The FCS Command team led by the Acting Commissioner, Mr Auta Moceisuva, solicited the meeting to seek solutions and possible assistance from UN Agencies on the key challenges faced by the organisation.
“It was absolutely wonderful that the Acting Commissioner called on us and we appreciate very much the presentation about your key areas of operations, achievements and the challenges and I really enjoyed the discussions that followed during the question and answers segment.
HE Wagener added they were in better position now to understand the key entry points for the United Nations and its Agency Fund programs can provide additional support to the Fiji Corrections Services in meeting some of your priorities.
Acting Commissioner Mr Moceisuva thanked His Excellency for being able to facilitate what was a historic first ever meeting of all UN Agencies with the FCS and highlighted the key priority areas mandated to the FCS by the Government to achieve in the next five years.
“We really appreciate that we have been able to do this because this is something we really cannot do alone, as we have shown through our presentation today.

“We are we are faced by an infrastructure that was built from the Colonial Days which are non-conducive to the manner in which we would like to operate today.
“We have budget constraints with limited resources and there is a need for training and expertise support to help us combat the changing global trend in criminal behaviour impacted by the influx of drugs, rise in HIV cases and the impact of technology on our operations,” he adds.
Mr Moceisuva said they now look forward to pocket meetings with the respective UN Agencies that dealt with specific areas of their operations which was a key outcome of the meeting.
