𝐅𝐂𝐒 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒

As part of the review of the future of peace operations and protection of civilians workshop in the Indo-Pacific region held at the GP Hotel and coordinated by the Stimson Centre, the Acting Commissioner, Auta Moceisuva provided his perspectives and shared experiences from his participation in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

Fiji, Vanuatu and Thailand were clustered together to share their experiences on previous mission engagements in South Sudan, Dafur and Congo. The role of Corrections Officers in supporting the protection of civilian sites efforts and monitoring of violations especially as they relate to children in conflict of the law was an important area of consideration.

In his deliberations, the Acting Commissioner focused on the mission mandate, issues of child protection in the field, strategies implemented, the challenges and lessons learnt from past experiences.

The workshop which ran from 20 – 23 July will end today as part of the review process.
