𝐅𝐢𝐣𝐢 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫 – 𝐂𝐎𝐂 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐢 𝐖𝐚𝐪𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐚

Despite serving for just over a year, COC Lawaka left a lasting impression through his dedication, humility and commitment to duty. His funeral was attended by a large number of Corrections officers, reflecting the respect and brotherhood he earned.

COC Lawaka graduated from the Basic Recruit Course in 14th March, 2025 and was serving in the Western Division at the time of his passing. He was widely recognised as a disciplined and dependable young officer.

Beyond his duties, he was a valued member of the Western Wardens 15s rugby team. His commitment on and off the field made him a respected teammate and role model among fellow officers.

At the conclusion of the burial, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Apolosa Veve, presented the Fiji Corrections Service flag to COC Lawaka’s father on behalf of the organisation. Mr. Veve conveyed the Service’s deepest condolences, assuring the family that they do not grieve alone. He said COC Lawaka served with honour and integrity, and his dedication will remain part of the Service’s proud legacy.

He encouraged the family to find strength in the memories they shared and comfort in knowing that Peni’s service to his nation made a meaningful difference. He affirmed that the Fiji Corrections Service will always remember him as one of its own.

Also standing in solidarity with the family was the Marist Old Boys Association. Their presence reflected the strong bonds COC Lawaka built during his school years and throughout his rugby journey.

COC Lawaka was a member of the Marist Brothers High School team that won the 2022 Vodafone Deans Under-18 Secondary Schools Rugby Competition. His achievements on the rugby field mirrored the commitment he later displayed in uniform.

The Fiji Corrections Service extends its sincere condolences to the Lawaka family, friends and loved ones. May they find strength, peace and comfort during this difficult time, and may COC Peni Waqa Lawaka rest in eternal peace.
