𝐅𝐢𝐣𝐢 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞

Yatu Lau Hall, Waimanu Rd, Suva – The Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Auta Moceisuva, and Director for Training and Rehabilitation, Superintendent Isireli Dausiga, today attended the Bose ni Yasana ko Lau (Lau Provincial Council Meeting) at Yatu Lau Hall in Waimanu Road to raise awareness on the Fiji Corrections Service’s rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.

Mr. Dausiga informed the council that Lau is currently the third-highest contributing province to the inmate population, with 134 inmates. He stressed that while the Service continues to rehabilitate offenders, successful reintegration depends on the support and acceptance of families, communities, and traditional leaders.

He highlighted the vocational training, education, and rehabilitation programmes delivered within correctional centres, noting that these skills and opportunities can positively contribute to the development of the Vanua ko Lau when returning offenders are given a second chance.

Turaga na Tui Nayau na Sau ni Vanua ko Lau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting reintegration efforts. He shared that he had previously met with the Acting Commissioner to discuss ways the Vanua could assist inmates from Lau in successfully returning to their respective villages upon their release.
