𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐂𝐒 𝐇𝐐

Suva: Ratu Tevita Kapaiwai Uluilakeba Mara, the Tui Lau, visited the Fiji Corrections Service headquarters today to discuss strengthening the reintegration of inmates from the Lau Province into society.

The Paramount Chief praised the Yellow Ribbon Program and supported plans to reopen the Lakeba Corrections Center to aid the transition of inmates back to their communities.

“We are here basically to applaud your men and women for the good work you ae all doing, and also to discuss and share some ideas to support your efforts for reintegration,” said Ratu Tevita.

“Not many people understand the big work that you all do, and this has been truly reflected by the achievements by the FCS in as far as the Yellow Ribbon Program has progressed.”

Ratu Tevita also addressed FCS personnel who hail from the Province and shared with them the grave importance of spearheading discussions in their own respective families and villages in terms of mentoring and guiding the next generation.

He was also accorded a traditional welcome by the FCS men and women.

Acting Commissioner Moceisuva said it was not everytime that a paramount chief visits the establishment to discuss ways in which the Vanua can contribute to the work of Corrections in ensuring that those released from their care are successfuly reintegrated.

“For the past few years the FCS have worked hard to engage the Provincial Councils to take ownership of their men and women when they are released from our Care,” said Mr Moceisuva.

“Lau has always been supportive of the work that we do and have visited our centers a few times, but to have its Paramount Chief here is indeed a blessing.”

Ratu Tevita has also supported plans to reopen the Lakeba Corrections Center which was closed down in 2010, to support easy reintegration of Inmates from Lau when their terms are completed.
