FCS Academy Drill Square, Naboro โ€“ The Fiji Corrections Service Southern Division held its Inter-Unit Inmates Foot Drill Competition this afternoon at the Naboro Academy Drill Square, bringing together inmates from the Minimum Corrections Center, Medium Corrections Center, and Pre-Release Corrections Center in a display of discipline, teamwork, and rehabilitation through drill.
Opening the event was the Supervisor of Southern Division, Superintendent Alevio Turaga, who commended the inmates for their punctual attendance and the pride displayed through their respective unit colours and presentation.
In his opening address, Superintendent Turaga emphasized that the purpose of the competition was not simply to fulfil requirements under the Annual Corporate Plan, but to demonstrate that inmates are capable of positive change and meaningful transformation.
He reminded participants that the knowledge and discipline gained through drill can guide them towards becoming productive individuals upon discharge, stating that โ€œnothing is impossibleโ€ for those willing to change and apply themselves.
The competition also recognized the folowing outstanding individual and team performances:
Best Platoon Sergeant – Niko Levula of Medium Corrections Center
Best Platoon Commander – Anare Qaranivalu of Pre-Release Corrections Center
Best in Drill award – Saveneca Batibasaga of the Minimum Corrections Center.
Best Platoon in Drill – Pre-Release Corrections Center.
The Fiji Corrections Service continues to use rehabilitative programs such as foot drill competitions to instill discipline, confidence, teamwork, and leadership among inmates as part of their reintegration journey.
